My dear son, and almost daughter in law have postponed their wedding, my plans to walk the Camino Santiago also are on hold. In our new times, these are inconveniences, and my entire family has pulled together to support each other with love, concern and a bit of humor. My daughter, son and his fiance are all sheltered in place, working from home, and have all their basic needs met, and I am so very grateful.
When I am not teaching yoga, in "normal" times, I am a medical social worker for a large HMO in Northern California. As an essential worker, I am still going to a medical center daily, to work with individuals and families as they face medical challenges. Yes, I am concerned about my personal exposure to this virus. And yes, I am honored to work with the best and bravest of humans, all the folks who keep the clinics and hospitals going under extremely challenging circumstances.
And still, I have been planning and training for the 500 mile journey of the Camino Santiago for months, and with all the changes, fear, hope, I have decided that if I can't get to Spain to walk this ancient pilgrimage trail, then I had better come up with Plan B.
So, here it is, my backyard Camino. Starting today, I will, within the allowable walking distance from home that is currently in place ( 5 miles) I will complete this 500 mile journey, day by day, before, after work, every day.
Today's mileage was , according to my Iphone's pedometer, 9 miles! 491 to go!
